TRAVELING TO INDIAÂ
- Finding Flights: Use Skyscanner or Kayak to find the most economical route. Consider flying into a major hub (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore) followed by a domestic flight to Goa for potentially lower costs. Alternatively, search for direct flights to Goa. Be mindful that peak season and airline situations can affect prices.
- Visas: Many nationalities qualify for a 30-day E-visa on arrival. Apply online at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/. Some countries require a paper visa from your local Indian embassy. Allow 15 working days for processing.
- Airport Pickup: We can arrange a reliable local driver to pick you up from Goa airport.
Packing Essentials:
- Pack light and breathable clothing for hot weather.
- Include layers for cooler regions if traveling beyond Goa.
- Bring long pants and a scarf for visiting temples and villages.
- Pack a first-aid kit, mosquito repellent, and comfortable walking shoes.
Staying Healthy & Safe:
- Goa boasts good food hygiene standards. Opt for cooked meals in well-established restaurants and avoid street food unless highly recommended.
- Stay hydrated with water, coconut water, and ORS solutions to maintain electrolyte balance.
- Consult your doctor about necessary vaccinations before travel.
- Malarial risk in Goa is low during our winter training season (October-April). Discuss your travel plans with your doctor regarding malaria tablets.
- India is generally safe. Use common sense and register with your embassy upon arrival.
Cultural Considerations:
- India is welcoming, but modest clothing is required when visiting religious sites. Cover shoulders, knees, and hair. Goa is more relaxed, with beachwear acceptable on the beach.
- Learn a few basic Hindi phrases to enhance your experience. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
Exploring India:
- Trains offer a unique and affordable way to travel. Opt for 1st or 2nd AC class for more comfort on longer journeys.
- Websites like Makemytrip.com can assist with booking train tickets and other travel arrangements
TEXT BOOKS AND STUDY MATERIAL
We provide you with all resources needed for the highest quality experience as a teacher trainee including your manual, hand outs and study material.
Trainees have three books to acquire prior to you arrival- these are books that will serve you long after your training is complete!
The Key Muscles of Yoga by Dr Long
You can order this book from www.bookdepository.com or Amazon.com.
The other two text books are:
The Illustrated light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar
*Please be sure to purchase version exactly titled ‘The Illustrated Light on Yoga’
The Four Chapters on Freedom by Swami Satyananda Saraswati
These last two books are printed in India and  available in most Indian book stores and also from our centre. You may be able to order these from Amazon etc, although they are much more expensive than buying from the source in India.
